The Gathering of Nations is America’s largest Native American pow-wow festival, which takes place in New Mexico every summer.
To best represent the variety of tribes present at the festival, the GOT logo is meant to transform into different patterns. The star shape of the logo is an important figure throughout Native American culture. Yellow was chosen for the main brand color because it is one of the few (if not only) colors with a positive connotation across each tribe. Each logo and pattern is taken from different culturally relevant imagery—primarily beadwork.
Due to many tribes losing touch with their culture through certain historical events, detailed information is not always available. For this reason I focused on designing for the five largest still-living American tribes, which include the: Navajo, Cherokee, Lakota (Sioux), Chippewa (Ojibwe), and Choctaw tribes.
